Sinigang na Bangus Recipe

One of the easiest dishes to cook, for me, is Sinigang na Bangus. “…it is a Filipino soup or stew characterized by its sour and savoury taste most often associated with tamarind (Filipino: sampalok). It is one of the more popular dishes in Filipino cuisine.” – Wikipedia

For this recipe, I used boneless milkfish because it is easier to eat, especially if you have a toddler. You can either have the milkfish deboned in the wet market or buy one in the supermarket.

Sinigang na Bangus Recipe
I know, I know! I’ll take a better photo next time. 🙂🙂

1 Bangus (Milkfish, Cleaned and Sliced)
2 onions sliced
3 tomatoes sliced
20g pack Knorr Sinigang sa Sampalok Mix Original
1 L water
a bunch of kangkong (water spinach), separate the leaves from the stalks
1 bundle sitaw (string beans)
2 sili pangsigang (long green chili, optional)
Okra (optional)
1 tbsp patis (fish sauce)

  1. Put tomatoes and onion in a pot of water and let it boil for 10 minutes.
  2. Add 1 pack of Knorr Sinigang sa Sampaloc Mix, stir.
  3. Add the milkfish and let it boil, add the fish sauce.
  4. Put the string beans and kangkong stalks and your preferred veggies.
  5. Cover the pot and let it boil for another 5 mins.
  6. Turn the heat off then put the kangkong leaves.

And that’s how I cook our Sinigang na Bangus. You can adjust the taste according to your liking. As for me and my family, these ingredients are enough for our tastebuds.

PS. In the past few weeks, I noticed that I am trying and sharing recipes here and on my Facebook Page. Because of that, I decided to make a hashtag for my post so it will be easier for my readers to see these recipes (assuming that I have readers. :D)! I called it #SaturdayIsRecipeDay. So from now on, I will only be sharing my recipes, food experiments, recipes inspired by others or anything about making food every Saturday.

How about you? How do you cook your Sinigang na Bangus? Or if you tried this specific recipe, let me know your thoughts in the comment section.

Thanks for reading!

Silent Sanctuary x Brisom: Just Chilling

Silent Sanctuary x Brisom

Silent Sanctuary and Brisom don’t believe in boxes and labels. Silent Sanctuary has a rock sound but they have a violinist to add the texture of a classical string section to their band. Brisom combines the influence of world music with synth sounds and an Indie Pop music flavor. This common point of view makes it easy for them to just hang out, to just be themselves. When they get together, the laughter comes easily. Work flows because they don’t see themselves as working.

“We found out that they also wanted to add some strings to their sound,” Raymund “Sarkie” Sarangay, vocalist and guitarist of Silent Sanctuary revealed. “And we only found that out when we sat down for the collab in Coke Studio. Somehow, nag volt in kami.”

Brian Sombero, vocalist of Brisom explains, “Friends na kami. Even before this project, we already knew each other. Of course, we would go to each other’s gigs and we knew each other’s music. We would hang out. But this time, we got to see another side of them. They’re super fun, funny but also competitive!”

A love of an easygoing hangout did connect them, but they discovered that creativity can take many paths. Brian reveals, “We have a very different way of songwriting. For us, we start with the intro. That’s how we build upon a song. It’s a make or break for us. Without it, we can’t make a good song. But for Sarkie, he likes to start with the chorus and the melody. So we learned that it’s also good to try other ways of songwriting; it’s good to get out of your comfort zone.”

Both bands also saw the big picture; they all wanted to create a song that was positive, uplifting and as simple as Sarkie says, “masarap pang road trip.”

Kim Mirandilla-Ng, the violinist of Silent Sanctuary, says, “We want young people to know that even if it’s good to be aware of the trends; it’s also OK to go against the tide to find yourself.”

Brian sees it simply as honesty. “It’s good that kids nowadays know about issues, about being woke. But for us, with our music and lyrics, we’re just keeping it real.”

Keeping it real still surprised both bands.

“We didn’t expect that it would get so emotional,” Brian admits.

“At first, you think it’s just about hanging out, and then you realize everything you’ve been through, and then it gets very emotional,” Jeffrey Castro, the drummer for Brisom, says.

Taste the sounds of Pinoy music as Silent Sanctuary and Brisom collaborates for Coke Studio Season 3. Catch them on September 21, Saturday, at 10 a.m. on ABS-CBN or on

10th Baby, Kids, and Family Expo PH

#BFKEP2019 Invitation

My First Expo as a Mom

When I received the invitation for the 10th Baby, Kids, and Family Expo PH, my heart leaped for joy as this would be my first event as a mom. However, we don’t have a helper to take care of my baby and going to events like this is hard because we now live in the province. But, seeing the list of Exhibitors and the Schedule of Activities, I told myself I will never miss this. Good thing, my husband volunteered to take care of our toddler while I’m out. Besides, I have never been out without my baby for a while now.

10th Baby Kids and Family Expo PH Day 1

Baby, Kids & Family Expo Philippines (BKFEP) is the country’s largest consumer and trade show for babies, kids, maternity, parenting and family products, and services. The 10th Edition was held last August 31 to September 1, 2019, at the Megatrade Hall 1, SM Megamall. There’s a FREE registration online and the Walk-In fee was P50.00.

The Expo Opening Ceremony started at 10:45 AM and officially opened at 11:00 AM. Below is a picture of the people who participated with the Ribbon Cutting – Representatives of some of the Exhibiting Brands, Manager of Megatrade Hall; Marianne Rodillo, David Abrenilla, BFKEP Founder; Vanessa Te, BKFEP Project Head; Vernie Fuentes, BKFEP Marketing Head; and Vision Board Coach Trixie Esguerra.

BFKEP2019 Participating Brands

The event was sponsored by Wilkins, Nestle Cerelac, Ogawa, Sweet Baby, and Chiron. Indeed, Megatrade Hall 1 was packed with brands with special discounted bundles and price not just for our babies but for the whole family. Playful Diaper and Wipes, Tiny Buds, Chicco, Baby First, Bite Block, NexCare, Smiles Tooth Gel were some of our favorites. Below is a list of the Exhibiting Brands and the Schedule of Events:

I managed to get pictures but there’s a lot so I just included screenshots here. I would just like to highlight BFKEP’s team for their effort of making moms/parents comfortable for providing them a special breastfeeding and diaper changing area. Please visit Homebound Mom’s Facebook Page for the full album.

It’s not just the moms who enjoyed shopping, I mean who enjoyed the event 😉, but the kids as well who went with their parents. The BFKEP team prepared something fun for the kids like the Ballet Performance, Magic Show, Alladin Musical and Games. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to bring our toddler.

For the moms/parents, they prepared seminars from industry experts and celebrity parents such as How to Foster your Kids to Healthier Habits, Healthy Pregnancy Tips, Natural Baby Skincare Tips for New Moms, Tips for Successful Breastfeeding and Choosing Quality Diapers. And those my friends are for Day 1 only! Imagine how much learnings can you get if you’ve attended all of those seminars! And you get all those for FREE or a maximum of P50.00. My 4 hours trip to the Metro was absolutely worth it!

My Heart is Full!

As with all moms who left their kids at home, I had to go home early. I wasn’t able to finish all the presentations and attend Day 2. Baby, Kids, and Family Expo PH exceeded my expectations as a first-time attendee and I am now excited for its 11th Edition. Because of that, I will make sure that I can attend next year and hopefully bring my kid. Perfect if my husband can tag along as well so he can enjoy events like this.

Another bonus is that I met mommy bloggers who I just follow on their social media accounts! I was like a giddy kid who asked for a picture with them. Lucky me!
